  • teachers teaching teachers (!) for instant credibility and value
  • having time to collaborate, reflect, and experiment in a supportive, nurturing environment
  • time to ask questions and talk about real classroom applications -- context
  • space to address / acknowledge pitfalls (and to learn from others' mistakes)
  • effective pacing : adequate time to explore and apply but not so much that participants get naughty
  • clear enough presentation or modeling session : getting guided through first before being dropped into solo explanation
  • exercises that are small and focused and that have an explicit rationale and purpose
  • acknowledgement of each participant (in some shape or form) : recognizing participants as thinking professionals
  • workshops that inspire attendance rather than mandated sessions
  • appropriate hands-on experience
  • an appropriate amount of take-away materials : less is more, but something in hand
  • presenter's helper : support for computers / technology / task in addition to presenter
