MTP: Audience Considerations
- opportunity to break out of grade-level or discipline groupings
lift the heart of teaching, the goals of teaching, when the group finds and embraces common goals; agenda to include opportunities for finding those commonalities - how quickly they like to be able to apply what they're learning
pacing for next-day delivery, so lots of practice time and maybe some group response time; practice driven by a particular purpose rather than practice for play practice; using vs. teaching - how the application will be appropriate for audience
inspiration as the launching pad for innovation; to get people inspired after showing ways you're using it by asking for their ideas and inspirations--and doing so throughout the workshop - audience's comfort level and skill level with technology itself
maybe launch with an audience survey; finding balance between content and what's important about the teaching of writing and technology--making technology the servant of the bigger idea; the bells and whistles don't do any good if there's nothing to bell and whistle about - the value of the hook
thought-provoking question or picture or link to something going on today; guiding questions; preview of student work; using sexy to get in the door; picture of the end result; some proof of previous positives; tease with success or invite the faith; student testimonials; scenario showing problem trying to fix.
