Workshop: VoiceThread
Our assignment: Create and share a VoiceThread to introduce yourself to the ATI 2011 Group.
1. Go to Voicethread.com and click on the top right to register for a VoiceThread account.
2. Fill in requested information and click “Register”. Note that you will be registering for a free educator’s account which has some limitations. See Step 4 for upgrade options.
3. Click on your email address in the top right corner and then Account Information to see what you will get with your free account. You can also peruse the upgrade options (or save this step for later).
4. Once you have a VoiceThread account, please open your second email from Nicolette in another tab and click on the link to enroll in the ATI 2011 VoiceThread Group. This link should automatically enroll you in our group and make sharing significantly easier!
Ready to create a VoiceThread?
5. Not yet? Want to read about classroom applications and some build some context before you start? Click the “About” tab.
6. Not yet? Click on the "Browse" tab to view a number of inspiring VoiceThreads or click on "MyVoice" to watch a number of helpful “How To” videos.Or you can view Nicolette's sample self introduction here.
7. Yes! Ready to give it a try! Click on “Create” and then “Upload”. Plug in your USB and find the images you want to use on “My Computer”.
8. Upload as many images as you’d like to include in your VoiceThread. Don’t worry about the order. You can click and drag to rearrange after the upload is complete!
9. Click and drag to arrange slides in a logical (or whimsical!) order for viewing. Don’t forget to add titles to individual slides and to the VoiceThread . (You can add titles at any point in the creation process).
10. Now to add the VOICE (and/or TEXT or VIDEO)! Click on each slide individually (and in order) and then “Comment” to add a comment to accompany each image or video. Choose from audio, video, or text commentary. You can even use your cell phone ot call in a comment if your computer does not have a microphone. Don’t worry! You can record and then rerecord or delete your comments, but be sure to save the keepers!
Note: When you click on “Comment” you may be prompted to add a photo to your "identity". I suggest that you do so. It will only take a minute. Upload any photo. It’s easy to change later.
11. Need help with commenting and want to know about other options like doodling or zooming your images while you are recording your comments? You can visit “My Voice” to watch “how to” videos about commenting or ask Nicolette if you are interested in these options now!
12. When you have finished commenting on each of your images, click "Share". You can share your VoiceThread with us by selecting the ATI 2011 Group (or by adding individual contacts).
13. VoiceThreads that you have created/saved or that have been shared with you can be found under the "My Voice" tab. You can edit, unshare, reshare, and delete VoiceThreads at "My VoiceThread." The small link titled "Contacts and Groups" at the bottom of the page will allow you to manage your sharing options. You can also make adjustments to the playback and privacy settings.
Hope you had fun!
